I just get really pissed off when police shoot non dangerous animals because they are tired of trying to catch it and say “public safety” as the reason for shooting.

Well, it's the equivalent to one of those barricades used in crash testing - running into a cow will give you a bad time unless you're driving an armored vehicle.

It is a waste of a cows life, but at the same time it’s not a regular occurrence. It’s more rare than a UK Police killing (4 in the past 5 years).

In the U.K. an animal is only shot if it poses a risk to the public such as charging at a member of the public or heading towards a heavy populated area where the risk is of the animal hitting a moving vehicle or a moving vehicle taking avoiding measures and so causing injuries and/or damage to property. If a vet has deemed the animal is in distress and either likely to do damage with its erratic behaviour or the stress of the whole situation has affected the well being of the animal.

British police have a strict protocol to adhere to before being authorised to shoot anything. Its not just a case of ‘I’ve a gun, this’ll be quick’. Believe me a police officer doesn’t want to shoot at a living being.

Just grinds my gears when someone’s animal is killed because police didn’t know how to catch it. Whether it be a cow, dog, etc

Its a shame really. Any animal loosing its life because of complacency or lack of respect for it. Where I live, though its the only city in our county, has a very large agricultural heritage and quite often but not too often a tractor trailer will turn over or an animal escape from the local agricultural auction mart, almost all make it back alive t the farm or auction.

It kinda is for public safety when it’s near a higher speed road. At least it could still be used for meat if you shoot it, hitting it with a car is bad news for everyone.
